Free try-out

No obligation offer

Our free try-outs give you the opportunity to experience dragon boating, and get to meet some of our members. To ensure the best possible experience, and that a position on a boat is available on the day, we ask that you contact us first (rather than just turning up to one of our regular sessions).

What to Expect

Upon arrival you will be given a short induction to ensure your experience is both safe and enjoyable. Experience is not required, as coaches will explain the paddling technique, and you will buddy-up with an experienced paddler whilst in the boat.

Depending on the particular session you are attending, anticipate to be out on beautiful Pittwater for either 1 or 1.5 hours.

Most first time paddlers, irrespective of their current level of fitness, will find they need to take recovery breaks during the session. When you feel tired, stop, then start again when you are comfortable; refocused on the paddling technique.

Equipment

We will provide you with a loan paddle, and padded seat for the session if you would like one.

Prior Experience & Fitness

Prior experience is not required, paddling technique will be explained to you on the day. If you are not a confident swimmer please bring that to our attention before going out on the water.

You certainly need to have a sound, base level fitness, and have no medical condition which is incompatible with a good cardio workout. New paddlers are encouraged to take short breaks as they feel necessary during the session.

What to Wear

You will get wet while training.

Many paddlers wear a T-shirt, sun shirt or rash vest with wet-suit shorts, board shorts or padded shorts, and slip-on reef walking shoes. Thongs are not considered safe footwear. A hat or cap that protects you from the sun is also recommended, and if you have paddling or sailing gloves feel free to wear those as well.

Location and Parking

Meter/paid parking is available within Rowland Reserve/Bayview Boat Ramp.

Many of our paddlers park outside the main Reserve parking area on the street, or in a smaller parking area, north of the main entrance to the metered car park.
