Dragonboating....
is an adrenalin pumping non-contact team water sport which had origins in Ancient
China but now has a presence in countries around the world. It involves 20 paddlers,
a sweep(steerer) and a drummer in a purpose built boat competing in races over various
distances (200m, 500m - most popular).
The Bei Loon Dragonboat Club (aka Northern
Dragons) is located at Rowland Reserve, Bayview with close to 160 members fielding
teams in most categories (Premier, Masters and Breast Cancer Survivors). The club
which was founded in late 2003 has come a long way and is striving to continue that
tradition.
